More baby goats, and now chicks too

Late afternoon yesterday, Goat Mountain View Lyric gave birth to twins. This is Lyric's third freshening. My son has suggested the name "Gadget" for the buckling. Based on that, I figured "Gidget" was a nice name for the doeling.

Gidget is the baby goat in the front in this picture. She is gold with blue eyes and appears to be polled.

Gadget is standing behind Gidget. He is gold with a white star and also has blue eyes.

The new family is happily lazing about and getting to know each other in the safety of the kidding pen.

The first chick of the season hatched today. I couldn't tell much about it when I saw it this morning as it was still wet and curled up in an egg shape. It appears to be a black chick. It did wave a wing at me from it's fetal position. What a champ.

Don't get near mama hen unless you want to be injured. I had to use a feed scoop to gently lift her breast to see underneath her feathers. There is a reason for the expression "hen -pecked"!

And, the pullets are now venturing forth, gingerly, from their nursery. The grown hens frighten them. So far, they are very well behaved--sticking close to the hen quarters where they can be protected by our LGD, Kenai.

Here is a picture of young Goat Mountain View Thundrstorm, a buckling. He seemed to wait for me to catch a shot over the fence while I was visiting Lyric and her babies. Why did he want his picture taken? I dunno. My older son would explain it this way, "Goats are random."
